Who we are

A team shaped by watching equipment strategy from the inside

Long before Columbus Leasing existed as a name, our founding team spent years sitting inside IT departments, finance teams, and procurement committees, watching the same conversation repeat itself: how should we pay for this equipment, and what happens to it once we're done? We noticed that the answers were rarely written down anywhere accessible, so we started writing them down ourselves.

Today, we describe ourselves simply as an informational resource. We do not lease equipment, broker financing, or manage assets on anyone's behalf through this site — instead, we curate what we've learned into a single, calmly organised place.

Milestones

Our history, one chapter at a time

The milestones below trace how our thinking on technology leasing and lifecycle financing has evolved — from an informal reading group to the resource you see today.

  1. 2009 — A shared curiosity

A handful of colleagues working in IT procurement began comparing notes over informal lunches about how differently their organisations approached equipment financing. What started as curiosity slowly turned into a habit of writing things down.

  2. 2013 — Formalising our notes

As our internal library of observations grew, we began organising it into structured notes on leasing models, refresh cycles, and depreciation patterns — the earliest seeds of the content you find on this site today.

  3. 2016 — Columbus Leasing GmbH is founded

We formally established Columbus Leasing GmbH in Ravensburg, giving our growing body of knowledge a permanent home and a name that reflected the sense of exploration we felt when mapping out this subject for the first time.

  4. 2019 — Widening our lens to asset lifecycle

We noticed that leasing was only one part of a larger story, so we expanded our focus to cover the entire equipment lifecycle — including responsible retirement, data handling, and circular reuse considerations.

  5. 2022 — Rebuilding our resource for a wider audience

We restructured our written material into the site you see today, organised so that anyone — not just specialists — could follow our thinking on IT financing and lifecycle management.

  6. Today — Still learning, still writing

We continue to revisit and refine what we publish here, informed by ongoing conversations with peers across the industry. Our commitment remains the same as it was at the very beginning: to make this subject easier to understand.
